The Scan & Pay App

Scan & Pay is the free customer app for paying with PayTo PayID. Scan a merchant’s QR Pass, confirm in your banking app, done. You don’t need it to pay — scanning with your phone camera opens the same payment page in your browser — but the app remembers your details, keeps your receipts together, and lets you set up PayTo once instead of approving every purchase.

Two apps, similar names. This page is about Scan & Pay, the customer app. If you take payments in a shop you want Scan & Pay POS instead — see Mobile POS App.

There is no iOS build yet. On iPhone, and on any device without the app, scan the QR Pass with your camera and pay at pay.scanandpay.com.au — the flow is identical.

What you can do in the app

  • Scan to pay.Open the scanner, point it at the merchant’s QR Pass, and confirm the amount before anything is sent.
  • Set up PayTo once. Approve a PayTo agreement in your banking app and later purchases go through without re-approving each one. You can see and cancel the agreement in your banking app at any time.
  • Keep your receipts. Every payment and its invoice stays in your activity list, so you are not digging through email for proof of purchase.
  • See what you’ve spent. A running total for the current month, across every merchant you have paid with Scan & Pay.

Signing in

Sign in with a passkey — your device’s fingerprint, face, or screen lock — or with a one-time code sent to your email address. There is no password to choose, forget, or have stolen.

You never enter your bank login, card number, BSB or account number into Scan & Pay. Payment is authorised inside your own banking app, which is what makes the PayTo PayID rails safe to use this way.

What it costs you

Nothing. The app is free and customers are never charged to pay with Scan & Pay. The flat per-transaction fee is paid by the merchant.
